Brian Canfield presently serves as the Chair of the Board of TELUS Corporation. His distinguished career in the Canadian telecom industry, which began as an apprentice switchboard installer in 1956, spans 55 years of service to TELUS and to its predecessor, BC TEL.

Through more than half a century of service at BC TEL and TELUS, Brian Canfield has helped to construct the platform upon which TELUS stands as a global telecommunications leader. He joined BC TEL in 1956 and, in the early part of his career, held key positions in Network Services, Engineering, Operator Services and Sales and Operations. Mr. Canfield became President and CEO of BC TEL in 1990 and was appointed to Chairman of BC TEL in 1993. He retired as CEO in 1997 and continued to serve as Chairman for BC TEL and was named Chairman of the Board, TELUS Corporation, in 1999. Additionally, he spent almost a year as interim Chief Executive Officer of TELUS between September 1999 and July 2000 while they conducted a global search for a new CEO.

Mr. Canfield has also been a great champion of British Columbia and a community leader. He was the Past President of the BC Summer Games, Chairman, Council of Governors of Leadership Vancouver, Chair of the Business Council of British Columbia and a champion for Vancouver’s Science World development. His contributions, both personally and in the business community, are immeasurable and are testament to his honourable character and integrity.
