Bob Hager was a highly ethical and determined man who gave generously of his time, talent and treasure to his family, his friends, his clients, and to numerous community causes.
Bob died of pancreatic cancer in October of 2011, four short months after his diagnosis. When Bob learned that he had only a very short time to live, he was determined to do something about this devastating disease. He brought together the leaders from VGH Hospital Foundation and the B.C. Cancer Agency, and with his generous donation, the Pancreatic Initiative was formed. This year’s ‘Annual Cypress Challenge’ bicycle fundraiser in August was dedicated to the memory of Bob, with the proceeds going to pancreatic cancer research.
For a number of years after he retired, he gave graciously of his time and investment expertise to the Public Guardian Trustee of B.C. and to the Universities Academic Pension Plan of Alberta.
He was a humble and a quiet contributor who worked hard to make a difference. Nothing gave him and his wife Judy greater pleasure than helping others. Many charitable causes continue to be supported through the Bob and Judy Hager Family Fund.
