Bus Fuller (1928-2019), Cofounder of Earls Restaurants and Chairman of Fuller Family Restaurant Group
Leroy Earl “Bus” Fuller, born in 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio, laid the foundation for what would become a Canadian dining icon. Following his service in the Korean War, Bus entered the restaurant industry, initially launching coffee shops and cafes in Montana to serve the local farming communities. This experience ignited his passion for the food and service industry, leading him to oversee drive-ins, manage A&W restaurants, and eventually serve as President of Controlled Foods.
In 1982, Bus, alongside his son Stan, recognized a unique market opportunity to offer a relaxed, high-quality dining experience. This vision led to the creation of Earls Kitchen + Bar, with the first location opening in Edmonton, Alberta. Bus was committed to offering fresh, globally inspired dishes in an approachable, comfortable setting, which helped set Earls apart from competitors. Today, Earls boasts over 70 locations across Canada and the U.S., marking its place as a pioneer in “Premium Casual Dining.”
Bus was a mentor and visionary in the Canadian restaurant industry, inspiring countless entrepreneurs and redefining casual dining with a commitment to innovation, people, and family values. His legacy lives on through Earls Kitchen + Bar and the countless individuals who continue to be inspired by his contributions. He passed away in 2019, but his spirit endures in the thriving company he created and the dining industry he helped shape.
