Chairman, CEO & Managing Partner of The Oppenheimer Group

John Anderson is the Chairman, CEO & Managing Partner of The Oppenheimer Group (Oppy). Since he joined in 1975, it has become a leading grower, marketer and distributor of fresh produce, generating over a billion dollars in sales each year. Today, there are 20 Oppy offices around the world.  

His contributions have resulted in several professional awards: The Packer’s Canadian Produce Man of the Year and U.S. Produce Marketer of the Year, EY’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2002 and 2015, the B.C. chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth as one of B.C.’s Dealmakers of the Year, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chile America Chamber of Commerce.  He was recognized with the Business in Vancouver BC CEO Award and named one of Canada’s Most Admired CEOs by Waterstone Human Capital in 2017. In 2020, John was recognized by the BC Produce Marketing Association with a Lifetime Achievement award as well as the Canadian Produce Marketing Association Lifetime Achievement award in 2021. 

For 20 years, Oppy has been designated as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies. In 2016 and 2019, the company was honoured by Waterstone for having one of Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures. Since 2017, Oppy has been recognized as one of BC’s Top Employers. In 2020 it was named among Canada’s Top 100 Employers. 

John is also an avid aviation buff and holds a commercial pilot’s license. He has owned and operated the Vancouver-based corporate airline, Anderson Air since 1980.
